RCC Employees Grow Their Leadership Skills at OILD

OILD The Oregon Institute for Leadership Development for Community College WomenGrowing and nurturing aspiring leaders is essential to organizational success. That is why Rogue Community College (RCC) selects staff members every year to participate in the Oregon Institute for Leadership Development (OILD). RCC employees Rose Passione and Alena Siddon were nominated this year and attended the conference in June in majestic Silver Falls State Park.

"Community college leaders are retiring at unprecedented rates," says Cathy Kemper-Pelle, Ed.D., president of RCC. "It is imperative that we develop a pipeline of new leaders to fill these positions."

Congress Passes an Act Allowing Students to Receive Some Pell Funding in Summer Too

In a push to help students attend classes toward their academic program year-round and graduate on time, the U.S. Congress recently passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2017, allowing students to get up to 150 percent of the value of an annual Pell grant during a single academic year, starting in 2017/18.

Legislature Approve $6 Million for Science Facilities Upgrade

Rogue Community College (RCC) will receive $6 million for the renovation and expansion of the science facilities on the Redwood Campus in Grants Pass thanks to capital construction funding approved by the Oregon State Legislature just before the July 4 break.
"This is good news from Salem," said Grant Walker, a spokesperson for the college. "It is a great benefit to our students as the science facilities will be brought to the highest possible standards for science instruction."

RCC Music Appreciation Summer Course Connects Students with the Britt Music and Arts Festival

The Rogue Community College (RCC) Music department and Britt Music and Arts Festival are partnering once again to offer a very special version of RCC’s Music Appreciation course this summer term starting July 11 in Medford, Oregon.

Join this class and enjoy the opportunity to meet Britt's music director, Teddy Abrams, and other excellent guest musicians. Abrams will present during class sessions that focus on the works and composers performed by the Britt Orchestra during the Britt Classical Festival.

Rogue Community College Evacuates Medford Campus Due to Threat

Rogue Community College (RCC) received an anonymous, written threat on the Riverside campus in Medford on June 15 around noon. The threat referenced the shooting at Umpqua Community College. RCC, out of an abundance of caution for the safety of its students, faculty, and staff, immediately ordered a complete evacuation of the Riverside campus and called the police, who have responded. The campus is closed for the day and all people are asked to stay away from campus.

Soroptimist International of Medford Awards $1,500 to RCC Student

Rensink was honored at a luncheon where she was presented with the first place prize of $1,500 to offset any costs associated with her efforts to attain higher education, including books, childcare, and transportation.
