RCC Ospreys Postpone Saturday Soccer Matches

RCC Athletics Osprey LogoThe Rogue Community College Ospreys soccer teams are postponing their opening day games due to air quality concerns. The RCC men’s and women’s soccer teams were scheduled to start their conference play in back-to-back home games against Portland Community College (PCC) on Saturday, Sept. 9.

“We have been working to keep our teams practicing indoors for the past couple of weeks to keep them in clean air,” said RCC Athletic Director Darren Van Lehn. “With no sign of the air quality improving over the next couple of days, we decided to postpone the games to keep our athletes and fans safe.”

The Ospreys rescheduled their matches against PCC for Saturday, Oct. 28, with game times still to be determined. The games will take place at U.S. Cellular Community Park in Medford as previously planned.

The postponement means the Ospreys women’s program will begin its season Wednesday, Sept. 13, on the road against Chemeketa Community College in Salem. Game time is 2 p.m. The men’s program will begin its season Saturday, Sept. 16, on the road against Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay. Game time is 2 p.m.

The home opener for the men’s team will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, against Lane Community College. The women’s home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, against Lane Community College. The Ospreys’ home games are at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
