I am an employee and I want to complain about a student

student complaint against an employee

General information and procedure(s) used to resolve disputes.

  • Prohibited behaviors are outlined in in AP-5500 Standards of Student Conduct
  • Employees are expected to try and resolve inappropriate behavior directly.
  • If an employee feels a student is violating the acceptable standards of behavior and incident report should be filed even when direct resolution is successful.
  • The Compliance Coordinator will make a decision as to whether a violation of procedure occurred – sanction imposed if appropriate (please see the Student Discipline Procedure for possible sanctions).
  • Faculty and staff may temporarily exclude a student if their behavior is severely disruptive and/or there are safety concerns which can be articulated.
  • Feel free to contact Chauncey Kieley (541.245.7632) when you first have concerns about a student. Even if discipline is not necessary they can often be put in touch with other services.

  • Employees should use the Discrimination and Harassment Reports and Investigations procedure if they feel they have been subject to discrimination based on race, color, religion, ethnicity, use of native language, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, veteran status, disability, age, pregnancy, or any other status protected under applicable federal, state, or local laws.
     

What the process will look like for non-protected class complaints.

RCC expects faculty and staff to try and resolve issues directly with the student. If the attempted resolution fails please follow the steps below.

  • Complete an Incident Report  – make sure to include specific behaviors which you feel violated the code of conduct.  Please avoid judgments or opinions when completing an incident report.
  • The Compliance Coordinator may contact you to get more detail, ask for any additional information, etc.
  • The Compliance Coordinator will also interview the student and any relevant people.
  • The Compliance Coordinator will make a decision as to whether a violation of procedure occurred – sanction imposed if appropriate (please see the Student Rights, Freedoms, and Responsibilities procedure for possible sanctions).
  • An appeal of a sanction is possible to the Vice President of Student Services whose decision is final.
     

How a decision is made to resolve the grievance.

The Compliance Coordinator will look at:

  • Statements by both parties
  • Any electronic evidence (emails, texts, etc.)
  • Credibility of the parties
  • Any other relevant information
  • All parties will have a chance to speak with the Compliance Coordinator and provide evidence prior to a decision being made
