An update on commencement

April 14, 2020

At Rogue Community College, nothing gives us more joy and pride than the annual commencement ceremony. We get to see your moment as you cross the stage. We get to see the hugs you share with loved ones after the ceremony. We get to honor the friendships that you have built with your peers and the mentorships you grew with instructors.

Sadly, given the advice of public health officials, the restrictions put in place by state authorities, and our commitment to safeguard your health and the health of our community, it is impossible to imagine we could or should have our traditional commencement this year.

However, I am pleased to announce that commencement will go on. The college is committed to celebrating the achievements of our students. In the next two weeks we will inform everyone of specific plans. What I can tell you now is:

  • Yes! For all eligible graduates, degrees will be conferred! Please submit an application for graduation two terms prior to your expected completion, or before April 24 if this is your last term.
  • We will be REFORMATTING commencement.
  • Commencement will happen on June 13.
  • Caps and gowns will not be required, but you may purchase them online from the bookstore as a keepsake. Details to come.
  • If you qualify to graduate with honors, you may buy an honor cord as well, if you choose.
  • RCC will be providing tassels in the mail along with your diplomas and commencement programs, and you will be a proud Rogue Community College graduate!

I applaud you for the flexibility and resolve you have shown over the past few weeks as we have adjusted to our new, current realities. I emphasize current, because I know that we – as individuals, as Ospreys, as a community – will get through this together.

Go Ospreys!
