Domestic Violence Awareness - October 2021

Led by Julia Fisher, MS, LPC and Nick Walker, MS

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). What Is DVAM? A month dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education on Domestic Violence—it’s causes, who it effects, how to tell if you or someone you know is affected by it, and how to get help. Please join the Counseling Department in bringing awareness to domestic violence during the month of October by attending our in-person and virtual events, which provide learning opportunities and ways to get connected to receive support (NOTE: In-person events may change to online pending COVID restrictions):

In-Person Events

  • Domestic Violence Workshop: Taking place at the Redwood Campus, October 13 at 3:00 p.m. (room CH-7) with Counselor Nick Walker.
Topics will include definitions of what DV is and isn’t, statistics about DV, the impact of COVID on DV, how to identify if you or someone you know is in a DV relationship and how to respond.
  • TEDTalk showing and discussion with Nick Walker: Jackson Katz and Leslie Morgan Steiner. Taking place at the Redwood campus on October 27 at 4:00 p.m. (room CH-7).
This will be a showing of two important TEDTalks about Domestic Violence, followed by a post-discussion.
