Invent 2019 Coming to Downtown Grants Pass

Discover the possibilities at Invent 2019, a family-friendly festival exploring science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 in downtown Grants Pass. This hands-on event is free to attend and geared for all ages.

Located at the RCC Small Business Development Center and Dutch Bros. headquarters, at the intersection of 4th and G streets, Invent 2019 will be action-packed with free hands-on activities, attractions and live music to celebrate the array of local resources dedicated to furthering innovation and creativity for the region. Now in its second year, the event is a joint effort of Rogue Community College, Pacific Power, Dutch Bros., City of Grants Pass, Josephine County, Youth Pathways Partnership and the Southern Oregon Air Academy.

“We at Pacific Power are thrilled to collaborate on year two of Invent,” said Christina Kruger, Pacific Power regional business manager. “Science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) are the roadmaps to creativity, wonder, and discovery. It is an honor to showcase local innovation and support in the development of opportunities to make life better for our community.”

The Rogue Innovation Hub, a joint effort of RCC and the City of Grants Pass, will be on hand with its innovation trailer and a local “maker” group of inventors and designers. Still in development, The Hub is a creative makerspace and technical innovation center in downtown Grants Pass designed to inspire and nourish hometown cultural and economic opportunity.

“Fostering education and innovation is our mission,” said Diane Hoover, RCC's Director of Continuing Education. “Inspiring our youth and providing resources for our innovators grows cultural and economic development. We are excited to continue as a partner in this wonderful event.”

Dutch Bros. is opening the lot outside its company headquarters to host a live entertainment stage with local bands and musicians, a pint-sized traveling coffee cart, and featured Dutch Bros. artisans – employees who will showcase their talents in a variety of STEAM-themed demonstrations, including woodworking, drumming and graphic design.

“Dutch Bros is happy to be able to enhance this wonderful community event,” said Jamie Stacey of the Dutch Bros. Love Abounds Foundation. “And anything we can do to promote innovation and creativity is exciting and aligns well with our values.”
