RCC to host four online diversity events in May

The Diversity Programming Board at Rogue Community College is hosting four online events this month. All events are free and open to the public. For more information and Zoom meeting links, visit roguecc.edu/diversity

Seeking Shelter: An Honest Discussion on Homelessness — 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 5. This virtual forum features Douglas Mungin, Ph.D., an expert voice on how a community can address homelessness with best practices, as well as a panel of local community leaders who will discuss the impact of homelessness in our RCC community and Southern Oregon.

Preacher Moss: Conscious Comedy — 6 p.m. Friday, May 7. Preacher Moss is a stand-up comedian, lecturer and anti-racism advocate who has performed across the U.S. and internationally. His unique style has been described as “smooth, intelligent, and thought provoking,” as his “seriously funny” message simultaneously occupies two spaces of laughter and intellectual engagement at the same time.   

The Defamation Experience — 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 20. This two-hour event begins with a riveting courtroom drama that explores the highly charged issues of race, class, religion, gender and the law with a twist — the audience is the jury! Combined with an audience deliberation and facilitated discussion, this is a unique opportunity to engage in civil discourse about the most pressing social issues of our day.

Courageous Conversations: Putting the Civil back in Civil Discourse — Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 25. RCC Diversity Programming Board Coordinator Sally Snyder, the Rev. Ryan Scott, the Rev. Ernestine Flemister and the Rev. Tom Berry lead a monthly discussion exploring the themes of institutional racism, white privilege and the history of racism in Oregon. This month's topic is "Putting the Civil back in Civil Discourse. This month's topic is "Putting the Civil back in Civil Discourse, with special guest Ron Jones from the social justice theater company Dialogues on Diversity. The objective of this workshop is to give participants the tools to have more positive outcome-based dialogues across differences.
