RCC Kids' College offers Computer Gaming Day Camps for Youth

Youth, ages 10-14, are invited to step inside the creative world of computer game design this summer at Rogue Community College (RCC).
RCC Community Education is partnering with Black Rocket to offer 10 exciting computer game development day camps at the RCC Redwood Campus in Grants Pass. Classes will be taught by Joel Wilder and Sierra Gilkey. Each class is four days with four hours of instruction each day for $225.
Black Rocket specializes in designing STEAM camps that use cutting-edge, easy-to-use, low-cost technology to foster student creativity and spark self-empowerment with a “make your own” philosophy. Students in the program come away with practical real-world experience,  skills, career awareness, and individualized learning. Most importantly, they come away saying, “That’s cool!”
Minecraft© Designers ~ July 16 - 19, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Love Minecraft? Want to design your own world? Learn how to create a custom map; the basics of creating three-dimensional (3-D) models to design your very own objects; how to build with Redstone and Command blocks; and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends.
Make Your First Video Game! ~ July 16 - 19, 1-4 p.m.
Love playing video games? Want to make your own video game? This class shows you simple coding keys to designing your two-dimensional (2-D) platformer game: conceptualization; play experience; level design; graphics; and sounds. No prior experience necessary. Just a desire to have fun.
Minecraft© Modders ~ July 23 - 26, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Love Minecraft? Want to make a mod? Learn the basics of modding, foundations of programming, scripting, and logic statements! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft.
Make Your First 3D Video Game! ~ July 23 - 26, 1-4 p.m.
In this Black Rocket classic, you will go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2-D game design classes and create an immersive 3-D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3-D games; explore beginner event scripting; level design; controlling the flow of gameplay; and storytelling.
Minecraft© Animators ~ July 30 – August 2, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies like Inside Out and Frozen by using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3-D models!
Video Game Animation ~ July 30 – August 2, 1-4 p.m.
Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a storyline. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching.
App Attack! August 6 - 9, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app and game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions.
Code Breakers ~ August 6 - 9, 1-4 p.m.
Calling all future coders, programmers, and designers! Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school student who just made $1 million dollars for programming in their bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey.
App.IO: Make Your First Multiplayer App! ~ August 13 - 16, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The hottest new Apps are IO apps! If your child likes to play or, they will love this class! Become the creator of the next viral web app and share with family and friends! In this class, you will explore the most popular .IO apps, design your own multiplayer experience and learn how to code your own app.
Code Your Own Adventure! Interactive Storytelling ~ August 13 - 16, 1-4 p.m.
Watch as the characters in your imagination come to life in this unique course that blends classic storytelling with animation techniques and coding. Start with a concept, design the characters, and choose not just one ending, but many! Learn how to create your own text-based adventure games with variables, conditional logic, images, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
